Position Description:
The IT Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of strategic technology initiatives that power McKesson’s distribution services. This role ensures alignment between business priorities and IT execution, optimizing resources, driving measurable outcomes, and enabling compliance and operational excellence across WMS, WCS, TMS, automation, and modernization programs.
This leader will manage portfolio governance, resource allocation, and stakeholder alignment, while ensuring projects deliver on scope, schedule, budget, and value. The Portfolio Manager will partner closely with engineering, product, compliance, and distribution center teams to deliver transformation at enterprise scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage intake across the portfolio, governance, and reporting.
- Establish cadence and mechanisms for stakeholder prioritization.
- Determine resource capacity and allocation in Planview, ensure real-time visibility into under/overallocation.
- Ensure projects are correctly represented in Planview (red/green/yellow status).
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Planview reporting, ensuring outputs support decision-making.
- Establish capacity and allocation management across the portfolio.
- Ensure Agile and JIRA practices are applied in day-to-day project management.
- Standardize project management practices across the portfolio; project managers own updates end-to-end from BFF through hypercare.
- Implement reporting mechanisms that provide strategic visibility across all participating teams.
- Ensure project managers actively find and drive solutions, not just report issues.
- Navigate independently in unknown domains with urgency, ownership, and strong communication.
- Create portfolio MBRs with business leaders, providing transparency into all projects, resourcing, and capacity availability.
- Standardize intake from other teams, requiring upfront details on who, how long, and how many hours are needed.
Minimum Requirements:
Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 6+ years of professional experience and 0-2 years of supervisory experience.
Critical Skills:
- IT project/portfolio management with increasing responsibility.
- Proven track record managing enterprise-scale portfolios with complex dependencies and regulatory requirements.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain technology domains (WMS, WCS, TMS, automation).
- Proficiency with portfolio and project management tools (Planview, JIRA, MS Project).
- Deep understanding of IT governance, compliance, and risk management.
- Financial acumen in budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Additional Knowledge & Skills:
Certifications preferred: PMP, PfMP, PgMP, SAFe.
Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in complex environments.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field.
