Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering is currently looking for a Junior Systems Engineer/Engineer in Training to join our Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE) team located at our customer’s facilities in Halifax, supporting them with Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) of Marine and Combat Systems Equipment, Documentation, Test and Evaluation activities for ships and submarines. The candidate should be capable of managing extensive technical documentation and engineering workflows, while showing a strong interest in developing their knowledge of Department of National Defence system engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Support: Assisting a senior engineer with the development, testing, and analysis of material-related issues in ship and submarine equipment, while also attending meetings and documenting decisions and reports as needed;
  • Verification and Validation (V&V): Conduct V&V of Marine and Combat Systems specifications, equipment installations, commissioning activities, evaluations, and testing procedures;
  • Testing: Perform testing and evaluation in accordance with approved test plans and documents aboard ships and submarines, and at field and lab sites;
  • Technical Review: Contribute to review, update and validation of maintenance and engineering policies/documents of naval systems; Manage technical documents using SharePoint applications for various subsites for Ship and Submarine Class documentation; and
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.
  • Mandatory: Bachelor degree in Engineering (or equivalent), with eligibility to register as an EIT and work towards P. Eng. certification.
  • Mandatory: Very good organizational skills with attention to details and quality, ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Desirable: Experience with naval engineering or the defense industry and a solid grasp of basic systems engineering principles relevant to marine environments.
  • Desirable: Proficient in developing precise technical documentation and diagrams, applying design principles effectively, and refining naval equipment processes through constructive feedback.
  • Desirable: Proficient in English communication across all formats and levels, with the ability to draft clear reports, technical documents, and procedural manuals for diverse audiences.
