Role Description The Survey Crew Chief is a full-time, on-site role based in Calgary, AB, responsible for leading field survey crews and ensuring high-quality data collection. Day-to-day tasks include organizing and conducting topographic, boundary, and construction surveys; operating and maintaining surveying equipment; and verifying the accuracy of field measurements. The role involves planning survey work, interpreting project plans, coordinating with project managers and office staff, and documenting field notes and reports. The Survey Crew Chief also supports safety practices on site, mentors junior crew members, and helps resolve technical issues in the field.
Qualifications
Strong proficiency in Surveying practices, including experience leading field crews and overseeing survey projects. Hands-on experience with Topographic Surveys and Boundary Surveys, with the ability to interpret plans and legal descriptions. Skill in operating Total Station equipment and related survey instruments, including data collection, calibration, and basic troubleshooting. Familiarity with survey data processing software (e.g., CAD or GIS tools) and digital field data collection methods. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate field notes and records. Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, follow safety procedures, and manage physical demands of fieldwork. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with clients, team members, and project stakeholders. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for travel to various job sites in and around Calgary and Western Canada.
