About the role

Reporting to the Director, Institutional Research, the Research Analyst provides technical and analytical expertise to institutional research projects and initiatives to support strategic planning, quality assurance, evidence-based decision making, and the University’s external and internal reporting requirements. The Research Analyst contributes to institutional research projects, plans and reports by conducting survey research, applying quantitative and quantitative research methods, compiling internal and external data and providing analysis and written content. The role undertakes data analyses and designs and produces summaries and reports of research and analytical findings. In general, the role collects, compiles, verifies and transforms data into value-added information and reports, often to fulfill sensitive and high-priority internal and external information needs.

Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a social science, data analytics, or a related field with an emphasis on research methodology, is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical competence, including experience applying quantitative and qualitative research methods for the purposes of research, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated skills in extracting, manipulating, and analyzing large amounts of complex data efficiently to produce accurate results.
  • Proficient in designing and executing reporting, data collection, statistical analysis, and data visualizations using diverse applications such as Tableau, Power BI, SPSS, Excel, and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Fluent in programming languages to extract and manage data (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and analyze large datasets.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy.
  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills. Ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • High degree of ethics and sound judgment to manage sensitive, confidential, or contentious information.
  • Superior collaboration skills, with a strong service orientation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in survey research, including project management, client management, and timeline management, as well as questionnaire design, sample design, statistical analysis and report-writing for a non-technical audience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the post-secondary sector and experience with academic and administrative processes and systems, including quality assurance frameworks.
  • Experience in conducting labor market research, identifying and interpreting industry trends for the purposes of strategic academic program development and enrolment management.
  • Experience with project and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices.

Additional Information

This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at MPT-C with a salary range of $76,430 (minimum) to $89,820 (midpoint) to $103,209 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
