Position Summary Primary responsibility is to oversee and enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance throughout our operations. Lead safety training programs, conduct audits, and ensure that all drivers and staff adhere to industry safety standards and company policies. The role also involves investigating and addressing safety incidents, implementing corrective actions, and fostering a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.

Location: Mississauga, Ontario

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours schedule with flexibility to cover all shifts in our 24/7 operation, including participation in an on-call rotation.

What You Will Do

  • As a member of the incident response team (IRT), assist/coordinate or lead the first response calls and investigations, including HAZMAT spills both on the dock and on the road
  • Conduct post-collision interviews with drivers along with your Operations team
  • Identify accident causes using root cause analysis and provide recommendations for prevention
  • Ensure all accident/incident information is entered into the S&C database
  • Conduct periodic “safety blitzes”, focusing on driver documentation, regulatory compliance, and mechanical safety & compliance of the vehicle “Tag program” JSO’s
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures related to S&C are followed (coach, train, mentor)
  • Conduct driver evaluations; ride-alongs, road tests, for all classes
  • Track and report on safety activities to improve safety within your division(s)
  • Review SpeedGauge, SmartDrive, and Carriers Edge reports and action them accordingly
  • Report weekly results and activities during weekly team calls with the Safety and Compliance Manager
  • Deliver training programs & orientations, both in-class and online; TDG, WHMIS, Moffett, Cargo load securement, forklift, tailgate, weights & dimensions, and A & B train
  • Deliver remedial training; remedial and/or in-cab instruction and coaching to both new and experienced drivers when required
  • Assist in the Pro Trainer program regionally
  • Review and ensure all new hires meet US Drug and Alcohol requirements
  • Arrange D & A Testing for drivers

What You’ll Bring

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • High school diploma
  • Must have a valid AZ License license
  • Subject Matter Expert regrading Provincial regulations for provinces of responsibility; regional long combination vehicle (LCV); orientation training, hours of service (HOS); pre-trip inspections; cargo load securement and transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Fleet Driver Trainer knowledge and experience, and/or PDIC experience
  • Knowledge of hours of service (Canada and US)
  • Subject matter expert in vans and reefers
  • Ability to drive organizational and provincial legislation changes
  • Exceptional attention to detail paired with strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Formal problem-solving techniques, reporting, investigations experience
  • Hands-on with a sense of urgency, ability to manage under pressure, and manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Integrity and ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
