What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role you will:
- Prepare a wide variety of foods through standard volume cooking methods, ensuring adherence to prescribed menus, works schedules and dietary charts.
- Maintain cleanliness of food services area, equipment/utensils.
- Assist in the receiving and stocking of food items.
- Assist with inventory of supplies.
- Perform other duties related to the operation of a large school cafeteria.
- Ability to work on-call hours as required
What you bring to the team
Knowledge and Experience:
- You have thorough knowledge of food preparation, storage techniques/procedures and proper kitchen equipment operations, normally acquired through completion of a post-secondary education in chef/cook training course or related work experience.
- Completed Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- You have demonstrated experience in institutional cooking methods and procedures, especially in large volume cooking.
- You have experience operating commercial/institutional food preparation equipment.
- You know nutritional principles to assist in planning menus.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- You have excellent communication skills including the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- You have the ability to work independently and as a team member.
Physical Work
- You have the ability to work shifts and perform physical work.
