About This Team More than 16,000 patients undergo surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital every year. We are experts in and globally recognized for our specialized Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Orthopedic Surgery programs. Specialties utilizing the Main Operating Room/Cysto are General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Otolaryngology, Lasers, Ophthalmology, Oral Surgery and Orthopaedics - both Reconstructive and Sarcoma. The Main Operating Room has 3 state-of-the-art Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) suites.
This team has sponsorship opportunities available for nurses interested in obtaining OR certification. A unique staff recognition and appreciation program F.R.O.G. (Forever Recognize Others Greatness) enhances team dynamics, while a Pet Board and Tree of Kindness encourages staff to celebrate each other.
In This Role You Will
- Perform scrubbing and circulating duties
- Provide direct nursing care to patients within the OR
- Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team
- Facilitate the clinical needs of the surgeons’ and anesthesia in the OR
- Effectively manage a workload within a fast-paced environment
- Anticipate, recognize and address rapidly changing situations
- Document observations, assessments and care provision
- Collect information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care
- Maintain clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and life-long learning
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned and/or requested
Job Requirements Mandatory
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Successful completion of a post graduate Perioperative Nursing Certificate program
Preferred
- 3 years’ experience in a Perioperative setting
- A baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved nursing program
