Your future role on our team
We are growing our Mechanical/Piping Engineering and Design team in our Trail Office! As a Mechanical/Piping Designer at BBA Trail Office, you will be working on a combination of local projects and projects from across the country, collaborating with engineers nationally and internationally to present our clients with unique solutions.

With us, you’ll get the opportunity to
- Work with cutting edge 3D scanning technology and point clouds
- Take a lead role in client communications and business development, particularly related to 3D scanning technology and condition assessment
- Perform field measurements, and provide mentorship to junior team members on field measurement techniques
- Develop mechanical layouts for brownfield heavy industrial facilities.
- Update PFD’s and P&ID master documents
- Lead piping design scopes and supervise other piping designers in your project team.
- Initiate the development of all required discipline deliverables for the assigned project or project area(s).
- Plan, develop, organize and control project-specific criteria or standards (pipe supports, material specifications, design criteria).
- Support proposal development by helping to define and estimate piping design or mechanical layout scope.
- Develop material take-offs and bill of materials.
- Support construction in drawing and specification interpretations and design modifications.
- Perform cross-discipline checking of drawings and 3D models
- Facilitate 3D model reviews internally and with clients.
- Participate in site inspections, condition assessments, commissioning, and testing

Overview of certifications and job requirements
- 10+ years relevant experience in mechanical/piping layout and design drafting in mining, metals processing, hydropower or pulp & paper industries, including 3+ years in a consulting environment.
- A valid class 5 BC driver’s license
- Mechanical Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of mechanical/piping codes, building codes and standards
- Experience with greenfield and brownfield projects
- Site experience, including field measurements, clash checks
- Experience with 3D scanner and scan registration would be an advantage
- Knowledge of 3D CAD tools such as: Smart 3D, Solidworks, CADworx and AutoCAD
- Ability to navigate 3D model environment using tools such as Navisworks
- Knowledge of 3D point clouds considered an asset
- Experience with design deliverables such as P&IDs, piping isometrics, layouts, elevations, equipment and line lists, vendor equipment drawings, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (English)
- Ability to travel on short notice to client sites (approximately 10-30% of time)

- Annual base salary, based on 37.5 hours weekly, between $106,700 and $130,400
