We are hiring for a full-time Security Architect to join our Cybersecurity Team!

Employment Status: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Additional Information: The ideal candidate for this role will either be Alberta-based, or able to relocate to Alberta. This role is Hybrid, with the expectation of some in-office attendance at either our Calgary or Edmonton office location.

As a Security Architect, reporting to the Director Security Architecture and Assurance, you'll work with project managers to ensure security requirements are being met during planning and development and is validated prior to production release. The role collects feedback from the Security and Risk Analysts for exceptions, trends, and threats to improve existing and future solutions at Servus. This role is often consulted to provide ad-hoc security guidance.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Provide subject matter expertise and a pragmatic approach to the design and implementation of security services including identity and access management, cryptography, communication protocols, and security event prevention and detection.
  • Research, contribute to, and communicate information security standards, processes, and procedures with a focus on application, data, cloud, and identity services.
  • Leverage existing security services and select components for use in delivering new business capability.
  • Provide guidance on policy and policy enforcement encompassing personnel and intellectual property of Servus.
  • Establish, implement and follow practices to ensure business value of security architecture and processes for Servus.
  • Identify, assess, and document risk when solutions do not meet expected security requirements.
  • Review and assess vulnerabilities in systems and provide pragmatic solutions.

Communication and Team Effectiveness:

  • Work closely with business and IS staff, other enterprise architects and Dev/Ops members.

  • Listen to others and communicate in an effective manner utilizing both verbal and written channels to foster and promote open communication, with a focus on clarity, active listening, and presentation skills.

  • Prevent, manage and/or resolve conflict.

  • Embrace and enable the process of change and transition while helping self and others move confidently through uncertainty, ambiguity, and transition.

  • Contribute to the Security architecture practice including:

    • Build, mature and deliver capabilities that are appropriate for Servus within the Security domain.
    • Help define and use policies and standards related to Security domain.
  • Proactively share knowledge with members of IS to help them adopt Security best practices.

What you Bring:

Essential Requirements for the Position:

  • 7+ years' experience in information security, preferably in the financial industry.

  • 2+ years experience working as a security architect.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex security concepts in plain language to technical teams, non-technical executives, and vendors.

  • Experience or working knowledge of modern software development practices, with strong emphasis on secure software development lifecycle.

  • Experience or working knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and frameworks.

  • Experience working in an Agile Dev/Ops environment.

  • Extensive experience using cloud-based service offerings and assessing security characteristics, with preference for Azure.

  • Strong familiarity with information security frameworks and standards such as ISO 27000, NIST 800-53, PCI DSS, OWASP Top 10, OWASP API Security, and zero trust.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving, organizational, and project control skills to support excellence in delivery and customer service.

  • Experience creating risk assessments and using threat modeling methodologies.

  • Ability to prioritize work in a multi-project environment, and to take ownership on issues and follow through to resolution.

Education and Training:

  • University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related IT discipline is required.

Licenses/Certificates:

One or more of the following certifications (or similar) is required:

  • SANS GCFW, GCIA, GCIH

  • ISC2 CISSP

  • SABSA

  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure all artifacts produced are concise and accurate.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.

  • Accustomed to a team-oriented, dynamic, and fast-paced technology environment.

  • An understanding and appreciation of the business impact of security tools, technologies, and policies.

  • Passion for maximizing value and efficiency using innovative methods and technologies.

  • Strong business acumen to help manage business relationships.
