CONSULTATION COORDINATOR – CLOSED (INTERNAL) COMPETITION
About the role
Job Purpose
The Consultation Coordinator supports the Nation’s duty to uphold Treaty and Inherent Rights through the coordination and administration of consultation activities. As part of the Planning and Development branch, the coordinator helps manage the day-to-day administrative and coordination tasks involved in consultation work. These include reviewing project notices and applications, assessing potential impacts through spatial desktop reviews, organizing community engagement activities, coordinating fieldwork, transcribing field reports, compiling traditional knowledge, and ensuring accurate documentation throughout the process. The role ensures that all incoming proposals and development projects, both on and off reserve, are reviewed for their potential impacts on the Nation’s land, environment, culture, and traditional practices. The coordinator serves as a connector between the Nation, government representatives, industry proponents, nation members, and Elders/Knowledge Keepers, and will need to have a strong understanding on the duty to consult and accommodate, as well as federal and provincial legislations surrounding consultation. This position involves a mix of office-based research, clerical tasks, and field-based monitoring and engagement, and provides the necessary administrative, coordination, and technical support to ensure informed participation in consultation processes.
Education, Experience And Requirements
Experience working with Indigenous communities in a coordination, liaison, or engagement role. Understanding of the Duty to Consult and Accommodate, as well as Treaty and Inherent Rights. Familiarity with environmental, cultural, and socio-economic issues that impact First Nations communities. Basic understanding of project planning, natural resource development, and regulatory review processes is an asset. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to prepare reports and summarize technical information. Experience working with Elders, youth, and community members with respect and cultural sensitivity. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ability to manage files and documentation. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork, training, or meetings. A clear Criminal Record Check. High school diploma or G.E.D. Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Political Science, or a related field; equivalent work experience will also be considered. Three years or more of related experience in basic administration or a similar role. First Aid/WHMIS, CPR certifications are an asset.
Working Conditions
The coordinator is required to work a total of 40 hours per week: Monday to Friday, 830 – 430 (with a one-hour paid lunch break); flexibility to work evenings/weekends as needed. Primary location: Planning and Development office, with occasional travel to various sites. Must be physically fit; walk, climb stairs, crouch, bend, crawl, stand for long periods of time or sit for long periods of time, ability to lift 50lbs. or more materials and/or equipment, etc. Must be willing to be open for ongoing training on cultural competency or sensitivity training. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required. Must sign and adhere to the Enoch Cree Nation Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.
