Data Modeler, contract position Number of positions:1, 6months initially with possibility of extension Location: Toronto, ON, CA Must be eligible to work in Canada 3d/w onsite minimum, no exceptions
Roles and responsibilities: We are seeking a Senior Data Modeler to design, develop, and maintain robust data models for our enterprise data solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build scalable data structures within a cloud environment, ensuring high performance, strong data governance, and alignment with business requirements. Key Responsibilities Data Modeling: Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models (including dimensional models, star/snowflake schemas, and 3NF). Cloud Architecture: Build and optimize scalable data structures specifically within the Snowflake Cloud Data Platform. Collaboration: Partner with business stakeholders, architects, and engineers to translate business needs into technical data solutions for core business domains (e.g., finance, operations). Data Pipeline Support: Work alongside Data Engineering teams to implement ETL/ELT pipelines and align with enterprise architecture standards. Governance & Performance: Maintain metadata, data lineage, and dictionaries while optimizing Snowflake performance (clustering, partitioning) and ensuring data security.
Must have skills/expeerience/qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 7+ years in enterprise data modeling and data warehouse design, with at least 3 years of hands-on Snowflake experience. Core Technical Skills: Advanced SQL, query optimization, and expert-level knowledge of dimensional modeling and data warehouse architecture. Tools & Platforms: * Data Modeling Tools: ERwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, or similar. ETL/ELT Frameworks: dbt, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, Matillion, or Talend. Cloud Ecosystems: Microsoft Azure or AWS. BI Familiarity: Power BI or Tableau. Methodology: Strong experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
