This position is required to work in person at the following City pools: Aldershot Pool, Angela Coughlan Pool, Centennial Pool, LaSalle Wading Pool, Mountainside Pool, Nelson Pool and Tansley Woods Pool. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

These positions are only available to individuals who successfully completed an Aquatics Daytime Practical Session on May 4, 2026.

The City of Burlington is accepting applications for the following Aquatic staff – employment runs August 2026 until September 2027:

  • Lifeguard – starting rate of pay is $23.31 (Grade C)
  • Swim Instructors – starting rate of pay $26.31 (Grade D)

Candidates must hold the qualifications required to be considered for the position hired by August 31, 2026. Copies for relevant qualifications will be required and verified.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Daytime Lifeguard/Aquatics Swim Instructors are responsible for instructing learn-to-swim programs and performing lifeguarding duties. More specifically:

Lifeguard - Responsible for supervising swimmers at public/rental swim times; rendering first aid as needed; enforcing policies, rules and regulations of the pool facility; ensuring patron safety; providing excellent customer service to participants; monitoring changerooms; assisting in maintaining pool equipment in safe working condition; performing other duties as assigned.

Lifeguard minimum age is 15. National Lifeguard, Airway Management, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructors, Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructors. All awards must be current (within two years). Standard First Aid with CPR C (current within three years). HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification. Aquatic Volunteering with the City of Burlington considered an asset. Must be certified as both Lifeguard and Instructor.

Aquatics Swim Instructor - Responsible for instructing swimming lessons for all ages; Learn to Swim administration; providing excellent customer service to participants; assist in maintaining pool equipment in safe working condition; performing other duties as assigned.

Aquatics Swim Instructor minimum age is 15. Police Check Requirement

This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.
