Laundry Helper – Laundry – Full Time
About the role
NOTE: Example of shift times are 6am-2pm and 11am-4pm. You would need to be available as a part time staff member to work all required times. Please take these shift times into consideration when applying for the position Duties
- Inspect and fold dried linen as per established procedure and in accordance with the production standards.
- Place prepared linen on exchange carts or shelves depending on need.
- Feed linen through the small piece and blanket folder maintaining production standards.
- Receive linen from folder and place on carts or shelves. It may be necessary to complete the last fold.
- Inspect, patch, and fold OR linen and prepare OR gown packs according to established procedures, maintaining the production standard.
- Record production numbers as requested. Recording of quota shortages may be required from time to time.
- Perform daily cleaning and safety procedures on the equipment including but not limited to: removing all linen from beneath the folder as soon as it is noticed but in any event at the end of the shift, removing linen from beneath the small piece folder, cleaning the surfaces in the SPD Room daily before beginning OR linen preparation, sweeping the dryer floor clear of debris, etc.
- Inspect all linen for damage or stains and sort into mending or rewash container as per established procedures.
- Use care and caution when working around equipment and moving parts. Follow safety procedures related to the operation of all equipment and movement and storage of buckets and carts.
- Report any shortages of linen, equipment malfunctions or other production problems to the Manager immediately.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Meet physical demands of the job, including extended standing, walking, lifting and climbing using proper technique.
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
Experience
- Experience in a laundry facility including working with dryers, small piece folder, blanket folder and patching equipment.
Ability
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.

SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to a total catchment population of approximately 115,000 residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma.
