About the role

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring aManager, Project Initiation & Planningto join our Facilities Design & Development (FDD) team on a permanent basis.

This position is ahybridopportunity and can based in FCL’s home office inSaskatoon, or in our Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary or Edmonton Zone offices.

We’re seeking a dynamic leader to provide strategic oversite of the initiation and planning phase of our diverse capital project portfolio. As the leader of the planning team, you are responsible for early-stage project development, including initial site and building investigations, scope of work definition, conceptual design development, cost estimating and scheduling. You must be able to navigate shifting priorities, strict timelines, and evolving business needs on multiple concurrent projects, ensuring precise control of scope, schedule and cost accuracy.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure completion of all necessary site investigations such as geotechnical and environmental studies, topographical surveys, building condition assessments, building code assessments and utility availability. Use findings to develop project execution strategies.
  • Confirm property use or development limitations including setbacks, encumbrances, easements, highway and/or roadway requirements.
  • Direct the development of conceptual drawings, including site plans, floor plans, elevations, and merchandising layouts, ensuring alignment with FCL design standards and facility planning guidelines. Coordinate stakeholder reviews and secure preliminary regulatory approvals as required.
  • Establish the project schedule, aligning milestones with key deliverables of FDD’s Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Prepare capital budgets to support gated RFE approval process. Monitor budget as projects progress. Recommend cost-effective scope solutions that address budget constraints while maintaining quality, design standards, and business objectives.
  • Provide recommendations on appropriate contract methodologies for consultants and contractors.
  • Identify long-lead items to ensure timely procurement and delivery of owner-supplied equipment and materials.
  • Complete comprehensive handover packages from the planning team to the construction team.
  • Assign internal resources to complete project work as required.
  • Oversee the performance management and development of assigned team members, including Project Administrators, Project Coordinators, Project Manager I, and Drafting Technologists.
  • Annual travel up to 25% may be required.

Who you’ll work with: **The Team:**You will work closely with FCL stakeholders, external suppliers, contractors, engineering consultants and local retailers. Additionally, you will have a compliment of Project Manager(s), Project Coordinator(s), Project Administrator(s) and/or Drafting Technologist(s) reporting to into you, and you will report into the Senior Manager, Design & Construction.

Who you are: You are looking for a career in Project Management & Business Analysis and :

  • Have 8+ years of relevant progressively responsible experience. Preference for construction or project management experience, with team leader and performance management responsibilities.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Have a strong understanding of all stages of a commercial construction project life cycle. Experience in estimating and scheduling is an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is considered an asset
