The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and North West Region is seeking a Recruitment Outreach Liaison to join our team.

** Note – This is an operational position requiring a high level of engagement with members and stakeholders. The successful applicant will be required to report to Kenora or Thunder Bay to perform their duties in accordance with Ontario Public Service workplace policies. High amount of travel. Interviews will be held in person in Thunder Bay and Kenora.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region (NWR) serves an area of 478,606 square kilometers. Our jurisdiction extends from the eastern border of Manitoba to the northern border of the State of Minnesota, to Hudson's Bay in the north and White River to the east. The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones.

Our jurisdiction includes the primary route of the Trans-Canada Highway through our Province, forming a direct link between the east and the west side of the region. The steady vehicular travel introduces policing challenges not only in traffic safety and enforcement but also in the area of investigation of criminal offences related to the transportation of contraband and human trafficking along this corridor.

About the job

To drive and support strategic recruitment outreach initiatives that attract a diverse and inclusive pool of applicants to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating outreach activities aligned with the OPP's Outreach Strategic Plan, fostering meaningful relationships with communities, and mentoring non-traditional candidates. Through innovative engagement and advocacy, the Recruitment Outreach Liaison enhances the OPP's public image and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in policing.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory Requirements

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers Licence
  • Current CPR & First Aid certification
  • Ability to attain PFPO Certification to administer Police Fitness PIN tests.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills

  • Oral communication, listening, and consultative skills to present strategies and develop innovative outreach plans.
  • Ability to interact diplomatically, tactfully, and confidentially with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in building rapport with community members and setting applicants at ease.
  • Written communication and research skills to prepare briefing notes, speeches, and outreach materials with clarity and accuracy.
  • Ability to deliver presentations at recruiting events and mentor non-traditional applicants.
  • Capacity to develop and maintain respectful, trusting relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with team members, stakeholders and partners.

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

  • Analytical and research skills to seek, evaluate, and apply information to improve outreach programs.
  • Initiative to plan and develop projects from inception through implementation and evaluation.

  • Coordination of recruitment resources and documentation of diversity-related activities.
  • Creation and maintenance of internal knowledge and relationship databases.
  • Procurement of goods and services using P-Card, including tracking, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Accountability for the effectiveness of outreach strategies and their impact on the OPP's public image.
