We are recruiting for a full-timeOperatorto join ourWater and Wastewater Services team.
This role will be primarily focused on operation and maintenance of the Water Distribution system, including excavations, leak detection and installation as well as repair and maintenance of fire hydrants, water meters, and valves, among other duties.
What you can offer:
- You have a Grade 12 education with strong math skills. A Diploma in Water Resources Technology or a post-secondary education in a related field would be considered an asset.
- It would be an asset if you hold or are working towards a class I Operator certification in at least one of four facility types as described in the Water and Wastewater Facilities and Public Drinking Water Supplies Regulations focused on Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection.
- You have a solid understanding of water distribution operations; construction experience may be considered.
- You can interpret various acts and regulations such as the OH&S Legislation and water-related guidelines pertaining to a water/wastewater treatment plant.
- You are comfortable working outside in all-weather conditions, in a physical labour-intensive environment.
- You are proficient with computer software and are comfortable navigating the MS Office suite, specifically Excel.
Other Requirements:
- Includes rotational on-call weekends and evenings.
- At times this position is required to work in extreme weather conditions and around unpleasant material such as sewage.
- Must be able to physically lift up to 50lbs and perform strenuous physical activities over extended periods of time (i.e., shoveling, climbing, carrying and mixing chemicals).
- Able to work in confined spaces including, but not limited to, manholes, lift stations and other locations as required.
- Ability to act quickly during emergencies pertaining to the water system, inside and outside of standard business hours.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean drivers abstract.
