Summary:

DMC is currently looking for Shaft Miners to join our team in Sudbury, ON. Reporting to the Shaft Supervisor, the Shaft Miner, will operate mining machinery, construct and build forms, complete concrete work, rigging and slinging, install shaft steel and perform related duties to construct shafts to facilitate mining operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate mining machinery to excavate and transport material.
  • Install shaft lining components, including cement and grout, in accordance with blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Perform duties required to ensure safety and to support the shaft advance, such as scaling loose rock from walls, extending and installing air and water pipes, operating muck loading machinery and inspecting mine shafts.
  • Perform routine maintenance of mining machinery.
  • Champion and comply with the 5-point Safety System and abide by all DMC and site policies.
  • Follow rules related to safety standards and practices reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to a Supervisor.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct pre-start checks of work area and equipment.
  • Practice good housekeeping (maintaining a clean work area, storage of materials and spare parts).
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is an asset.
  • Must have Ontario Basic Underground Common Core - 770010 program (U0000-U0001-U0002-U0012).
  • Minimum 4-5 five years of experience as an underground miner.
  • Shaft sinking experience would be an asset.
  • Sound knowledge, skills, and experience in operation of machinery.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to work a rotation of day and night shifts.

DMC is a proven innovator!

1980 The company was founded in 1980 as Dynatec Mining Limited. In its second year in business, it started building the Macassa Mine shaft, for which, it still holds the record for the deepest single-lift timbered shaft in the world.

1992 DMC developed the Long Round Concept for shaft sinking, an innovation that improved productivity by 20%.

2013 The company initiated and developed leading edge, shaft sinking technology using Shaft Boring Roadheaders (SBRs) designed and built in Germany for a twin shaft project in Canada.

2015 DMC's Jansen team performed the first ever installation of shaft tubing using a robotic arm called the Blairmore Ring Erector (BRE).
