The Financial Accountant would play a key role in the performance of day to day accounting practices as well as assist with month-end reconciliations and closing entries. This is a comprehensive role that requires a solid understanding of all aspects of accounting and the ability to work with large volumes of data from a variety of systems. The ideal candidate would be able to work independently and possess exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This position reports directly to the Vice President – Finance, and works closely with other members of the Accounting Department in order to support their functions as necessary.

About the position:

• Assisting in the preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
• Assisting with variance analysis of both the Income Statement and Balance Sheet
  • Providing support in all financial areas, including A/P, A/R, CapEx, and Payroll
  • Acting as a resource for clerical and accounting staff
  • Maintenance of continuity schedules and cash flow forecasts
  • Preparing government remittances and regulatory filings
  • Performing routine system integrations
  • Assisting with interim and year-end audit requirements
  • Performing ad-hoc reporting, analysis and other related duties as required

What you bring:

• 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or business administration an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices

• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

• Experience with Microsoft Office and intermediate level user of Microsoft Excel

• Ability to work with large volumes of data and effectively summarize data into meaningful information

• Ability to plan and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines

• Strong interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills

• Systems experience including Great Plains accounting and Trimble fleet management software an asset
