The Role Reporting to the Senior Master, you will perform the following tasks:
- Loading, clearing and navigating the vessel in all types of weather and traffic .
- Supervising and ensuring that all members of the deck, engineering and catering crew conduct their duties in accordance with policy and procedure regulations .
- Handling emergencies or unusual occurrences; taking responsibility for making on-the-spot decisions which safeguard the best interest of the vessel, passengers, crew and BC Ferries .
- Reviewing, noting and updating new information pertaining to Statutory Regulations and Corporate policies and procedures .
- Completing logbooks, approving timesheets and various other forms, reports and correspondence associated with the administration of the vessel; and conducting vessel inspections.
- Leading, directing, and training crew in fire, safety and boat drills and responding to emergency situations; handling passenger complaints.
What You Bring To The Team You are a passionate, innovative leader with the ability to communicate and liaise cooperatively with shipboard personnel and other BC Ferries departments. You are computer literate and have clear, concise English communication skills. The successful candidate will hold a valid Master Mariner or Master Mariner, Near Coastal certificate . In addition, a familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite would be an asset.
