About the role

  • An expert level knowledge base in project risk management systems, which is typically achieved through at least 15 years in a career in managing complex consulting projects, with at least 5 years of targeted experience managing risk registers, audits, dashboards, and incident response for a multi-disciplinary firm.
  • A strong track record of ensuring that operations remain resilient, compliant, and future-ready.
  • An interest in leading the strategy to shape how risk is understood, communicated, and managed across a dynamic, employee-owned firm with a reputation for excellence in engineering, architecture, and planning.

Your Role as Director of Project Risk:

  • Risk Framework & Policy Development

For the overall portfolio of projects and in consideration of the full project life cycle from opportunity identification and pursuit through delivery and closeout:

  • Visioning, developing, documenting, and maintaining standardized risk management methodologies and policies.

  • Establishing governance frameworks and protocols for risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional leaders to align risk management processes with business goals.

  • Monitoring compliance with internal risk policies.

  • Engaging with corporate legal on the development on all new policies and protocols.

  • Providing leadership to all staff on implementation and best practices, while supporting and mentoring team members with challenging projects.

  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Leading risk assessments for projects, identifying potential threats and opportunities.

  • Designing and implementing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans, and support oversight during delivery.

  • Supporting project teams with strategic guidance on complex risk issues and escalation management.

  • Facilitating risk workshops, health reviews, and post-mortem evaluations.

  • Training & Capability Building

  • Designing and delivering structured risk management training programs for project managers and teams.

  • Mentoring and coaching staff to build risk management capabilities.

  • Conducting regular skills assessments and identify development opportunities in risk management.

  • Promoting knowledge sharing and lessons learned related to risk across teams.

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Leading initiatives to identify and implement enhancements in risk management processes.

  • Analyzing risk data to drive insights and improvements.

  • Fostering a culture of innovation and feedback-driven change in risk management practices.

  • Benchmarking internal risk practices against industry standards and emerging trends.

  • Consulting with key internal stakeholders to develop a yearly action plan summarized in the annual Risk Management Plan.

  • Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

  • Contributing to business planning and operational strategy from a risk perspective.

  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment on risk expectations and outcomes.

  • Collaborating with corporate legal on specific projects with identified increased risk levels.

  • Engaging with our professional insurance provider on industry trends and best practices.

  • Promoting a high-performance culture rooted in accountability and risk excellence.

  • Other

  • As a professional in your field, engaging through all project stages, from definition, through planning, design, and construction using your demonstrated abilities to recognize opportunities, understand client needs and manage and deliver projects.

  • Fostering a collaborative work environment that encourages professional growth and development in risk management.

  • Working with the Director of Innovation to drive efficiencies and introduce new technology and innovation in risk management.

  • Participating in industry events and conferences to increase the firm’s risk management expertise and capabilities.
