The Temporary Coordinator/Language Assessor will report to the Manager, Language Assessment Services - Peel Halton Dufferin and provide leadership and support to assessment staff at both the Mississauga and Malton sites and also administer language assessments to eligible adult clients.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervision
- Coordinate appointment scheduling for testing centre sites and online
- Ensure smooth workflow and exceptional customer service to clients, community partners and colleagues
- Motivate and supervise assessment staff including assessors in the delivery of service
- Cultivate a positive, engaged and healthy team environment and a OneAchēv mindset
- Communicate site-specific matters to Manager in a timely fashion based on degree of importance
- Provide training re: onsite procedures and policies specific to the CLARS Language Assessment Centre protocols and guidelines
- Liaise with Achev Site Coordinators and ensure Language Assessment Centre staff teams adhere to site-specific and organization-wide safety and other mandatory procedures
- Facilitate employee goal-setting and timely conduct of performance reviews
- Facilitate regular team meetings and provide site updates at all-staff meetings
- Work collaboratively with the other coordinators and staff to identify/implement motivation and professional development initiatives to foster and maintain positive team morale
- Effectively communicate with and support the Manager and coordinators from other LAC locations, to ensure cohesive delivery of services to clients and language training providers
- Arrange site coverage and supervision in coordination with management and other coordinators
- Pro-actively support Assessors in addressing client/provider needs in a timely and efficient manner; notify and involve management as necessary
- Report issues and recommendations to management in a timely manner
- Compile and submit reports as requested
- Travel to other sites in PHD as required
- Other duties as assigned by Manager
Language Assessment and Referral
- Administer assessments to adult clients, including covering assessments when assessors call in sick
- Complete placement /referral documentation using the HARTs/CLARS database
- Liaise with Service Providers regarding general inquiries and placement
- Ensure a consistent, warm and welcoming approach to the reception of all clients
- Screen clients for language programs
- Offer general information and orientation sessions to clients
- Monitor and update information on services provided by community partners
- Participate in special projects promoting programs
Qualifications Special Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:
- Two or more years of experience supervising and managing teams
- Demonstrated experience onboarding, training and coaching staff
- Demonstrated experience with successful change management initiatives
- Familiarity with CLARS Operational Guidelines and protocols
- Ability to support and motivate others in a collaborative team environment
- Sensitivity to, and awareness of, diversity of cultures represented by clientele, staff and providers
- Organizational skill and attention to detail
- Individual consultation/interviewing skills
- Superior English communication skills
- Experience in using Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Teams and Outlook
- Several years experience providing language assessments is preferred
- Knowledge of HARTS (experienced user preferred)
- Knowledge of eligibility for language programs (IRCC and MLITSLD requirements)
- Knowledge of language training options and local community service providers
Education & Certification Required
- Post-secondary education in related field - e.g. undergraduate degree in communications, social work or teaching; with strong interpersonal focus - language studies an asset
- Supervisory/management/coaching related training an asset
- Training on CLB based in-person and online tools including: CLBPA, CLBPT and others as identified by funder
