What would my role be?

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, and under the guidance of the senior preventive maintenance technician, you will:

  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of patient care equipment, appliances, and other mechanical and refrigeration equipment.

  • Act as first responder to troubleshoot and repair various non-HVAC building components outside regular business hours.

How do I qualify?

Required:

  • Two (2) year community college diploma from a recognized institution or apprenticeship program in a relevant field such as Building Maintenance, HVAC & Refrigeration

  • Minimum of three (3) years of years of diversified work experience in the maintenance of buildings and equipment, preferably in a hospital environment

Preferred:

  • Valid Ontario or Inter-provincial license in a trade related to building maintenance

  • Fluent in French and English

What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?

  • Able to perform activities requiring considerable standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling/pushing and transferring equipment and material

  • Able to demonstrate respect, patience and compassion toward patients and residents

  • Able to work in a team environment

  • Able to understand forms and reports when working from blueprints or specifications

  • Strong visual acuity for reading blueprints and working with small parts

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing work environment

  • Able to work with little supervision and to exercise independent decision making and judgement in the performance of all duties

  • Able to work safely and effectively with maintenance tools and equipment

  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Basic computer skills
