About the role

Company Description

The City of Campbell River is searching for an experienced Engineering Technologist III to join our Liquid Waste Services Team in this permanent full-time position of 40 hours per week.

Naturally, Campbell River – Located on Vancouver Island, the City of Campbell River offers a rare combination of a welcoming small-town feel with large-city amenities. We are a 45-minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching.

The role: Reporting to the Liquid Waste Services Manager, the Engineering Technologist III assists with and supports the planning, performance and improvement of infrastructure and operations within our Liquid Waste Services (LWS) department. This role involves coordinating and implementing programs such as emergency response, infrastructure condition assessments, and preventative maintenance. You will assist in long- and short-term planning for sewer and stormwater systems, and support capital and maintenance projects. Key responsibilities include reviewing engineering reports and designs, conducting data analysis to inform infrastructure performance and lifecycle management, and preparing technical reports. This is a dynamic role that supports continuous improvement and ensures the long-term reliability of LWS infrastructure.

What we offer: The 2025 rate of pay for this permanent full-time CUPE bargaining unit position is $48.17 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. Effective January 1, 2026 the rate of pay will be $49.74 per hour. This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements which may include one of the following: compressed work week, earned day off or varied hours.

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certification

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering or relevant field such as wastewater, water or environmental technology.
  • Registered as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC, or with other self-regulated professional association relevant to the discipline/specialization within the first 6 months.
  • Training in Project Management
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and provide and maintain a clear personal driving record, as per City policy.
  • EOCP Certification in Wastewater Distribution or Treatment is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years technical (analysis, design, research, etc.) experience in water and/or wastewater utilities within the past 10 years.
  • Experience with assessment maintenance, and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure, and with surveying, contract administration and construction inspection is considered an asset.
