Social Worker {MOPSEU MH-26-042}
About the role
**Position:**Social Worker **Department:**Mental Health & Addictions Duration Approximately Three (3) Months with the possibilty of extension
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- Baccalaureate degree in Social Work required; Master’s degree preferred
- Must be able to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
- Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
- Recent clinical experience (within last 2 years) in a mental health and/or addictions setting
- Demonstrate experience with substance use interventions (i.e. Motivational Interviewing (MI), Stages of Change)
- Experience developing and facilitating group psychotherapy is an asset
- Advanced knowledge of community resources and service systems that support individuals with concurrent disorders required
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to provide a wide range of counselling, support, advocacy and educational services to clients and family members, as required
- Demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe care
- Demonstrated critical problem solving and decision making skills
- Exemplifies our organizations C.A.R.E. values
- Must be involved in continuing education and demonstrate commitment to quality improvement
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and able to organize and prioritize work load
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all members of an Interdisciplinary health care team which includes clients, families and community partners
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
- Ability to meet the physical demands required for a community based team
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention to ensure the safety of self, fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Excellent attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.
NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
A major teaching centre for students in medicine, psychiatry, nursing and allied health professions, NBRHC is proud to be affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nipissing University, Canadore College and several other Ontario colleges and universities.
