Job Description
We are currently seeking a qualified Health & Safety Director to join our Infrastructure team, based out of Toronto, ON. The Health & Safety Director will be responsible for shaping the safety culture, influencing strategic decisions, and ensuring compliance with provincial legislation. This role combines leadership, innovation, and collaboration to deliver operational excellence across all phases of the project lifecycle—through construction and commissioning. Bantrel Infrastructure, is a key sub-vendor to Bechtel, has been appointed the Delivery Partner within an integrated team with the customer, Metrolinx, for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project and will work in a Delivery Partner role within an integrated team with the customer organization for a Subway Project in Toronto, Ontario. The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment, being performed by two key PPP Contractors and multiple advanced early works (EAW) packages Contractors and two large Progressive Design Build Contracts. The scope includes both managing the Works associated with the program and with the individual construction projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead the health & safety aspects of the project by providing health & safety subject matter expertise to the Integrated Project Team.

Execute a comprehensive Health & Safety program aligned with the Delivery Partner and Bantrel standards to ensure safe delivery of the project.

Lead an integrated project team of safety professionals.
-
Oversee health and safety staff resourcing.
-
Organize and deploy the health and safety team to provide optimal site coverage and respond to emerging risks.
-
Custodian of the Health & Safety Management Plan and the supporting plans, processes, procedures and tools.
-
Engaging in health and safety related issues and providing direction / recommendation / guidance based on their experience.
-
Sharing health and safety related best practices across the project.
-
Champion a proactive ‘Safety First’ culture across all project teams and contractors.
-
Lead risk assessments for complex urban rail infrastructure, including tunneling and station construction.
-
Use data analytics and digital tools to monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
-
Oversee audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
-
Collaborate with leadership, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
Qualifications
-
Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or Construction Management.
-
10+ years in safety leadership roles on large-scale heavy civil, infrastructure or transit projects.
-
Experience with Ontario Line, Metrolinx projects, P3 delivery models, and rail systems are highly desirable.
-
Advanced certifications (CRSP, CSP, CHST) preferred.
-
Strong knowledge of OHSA, WSIB, and Transport Canada regulations.
-
Skilled in safety management systems, analytics, and digital platforms.
-
COR compliance experience and First Aid/CPR certification.
