About the role
Senior Accountant
Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing accounting team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, multi-entity environment and is looking to take on increasing responsibility while partnering closely with senior leadership.
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, month-end close activities, intercompany accounting, audit support, and continuous process improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will also provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting team members.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee full-cycle accounting activities across multiple entities.
- Lead month-end close processes and ensure timely reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and working papers.
- Review general ledger coding and maintain financial record accuracy.
- Prepare and review financial statements.
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Manage GST/HST filings and supporting documentation.
- Support year-end audit activities, including auditor requests and schedules.
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
- Review work completed by team members and provide feedback.
- Partner closely with the Controller on reporting initiatives and special projects.
- Support team development and knowledge sharing.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements.
- Develop and enhance accounting procedures and controls.
- Recommend efficiencies to improve workflow and reporting accuracy.
- Stay current on accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong full-cycle accounting experience.
- Experience leading month-end close activities.
- Experience preparing financial statements.
- Strong intercompany accounting experience.
- Experience supporting year-end audits.
- Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior staff.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Mandatory Requirements
- Some audit experience gained within a mid-size or large public accounting firm.
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation.
- Experience within Real Estate Development, Property Management, Construction, Development, or other multi-entity organizations.
