About the role
**Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office – we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.
We are currently seeking candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
**About This Role
As part of Intersect’s Development Engineering team, you’ll guide the civil design of renewable energy projects from early-stage due diligence through Issued for Construction. With a primary focus on wind projects, you’ll own site layout optimization, manage technical studies, and lead civil and structural design reviews. Your work will balance land use efficiency, constructability, and cost, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standard. You’ll collaborate with internal teams including Development, GIS, Real Estate, Permitting, Finance, Construction, and Operations as well as external consultants and EPC partners to advance projects from concept to execution.
**Team Overview
The Development Engineering team serves as Intersect’s civil engineering subject matter experts, driving the technical foundation of our projects. We manage site design and engineering across wind, solar, and energy storage projects, overseeing everything from feasibility assessments to construction-ready designs. Beyond design, we support procurement, construction, and operations, ensuring projects perform as planned. By managing consultants, optimizing layouts, and collaborating closely with EPCs and internal teams, the Development Engineering team helps bring renewable projects to life at scale.
**What You’ll Do
Drive Civil & Structural Design
• Lead civil and structural design reviews across multiple renewable projects, with a focus on wind development
• Conduct cost and value engineering to balance performance, budget, and constructability
• Manage survey procurement, crossing/encroachment coordination, and site due diligence studies
Optimize Site Layouts
• Own and manage site constraint maps, layouts, and designs in collaboration with consultants
• Optimize layouts for efficient land use, taking into account equipment selection, topography, environmental, and permitting constraints
• Leverage geospatial and design tools to improve accuracy and efficiency in project design
Support Project Development
• Conduct and manage early-stage civil due diligence, identifying and mitigating design, budget, and schedule risks
• Coordinate technical diligence activities, including hydrology, geotechnical, and transportation studies
• Work closely with Wind, PV, BESS, and HV Engineering teams to integrate civil design across disciplines
Collaborate Across Stakeholders
• Partner with internal teams like Development, GIS, Real Estate, Permitting, Finance, Construction, and Operations to ensure alignment and project success
• Manage external consultants and EPC partners to deliver optimized, constructible designs
• Communicate technical recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
**What You’ll Bring
• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience designing and reviewing renewable energy layouts; wind project experience preferred
• Strong understanding of civil design principles, technical diligence processes, and EPC construction standards for renewables
• Working knowledge of wind and/or solar system design, optimization, and cost drivers
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities
• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyze risks, evaluate opportunities, and make sound engineering decisions
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions
Bonus points for:
• Experience with battery storage design
• Expertise in grading, stormwater management, and erosion control
• Familiarity with automated layout tools and geospatial analysis software
• Experience across all phases of project development, from siting to construction
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D
• A master’s degree in engineering or a related field
**Total Rewards
At Intersect, we care about your well-being, growth, and balance. Here’s how we support you:
**Compensation: USD$90,000 - USD$125,000 or CAD$136,000 - CAD$179,000 base salary plus 20% annual target bonus
**Health & wellness: 100% premium coverage for you and your dependents on medical, dental, and vision
**Time to recharge: Unlimited PTO, plus two company-wide breaks (Fourth of July & end of year)
**Family support: Up to 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, plus 6 additional weeks for birth parents; access to family planning support via Carrot
**Mental health: Free access to Ginger coaching and counseling, plus a Headspace account for mindfulness and meditation
**Retirement: 3% non-elective employer contribution to your 401k or RRSP, ensuring your financial future is on the right track
**Perks & extras: $150 monthly food stipend, pet insurance allowance, and full home office setup
