About the Role
Role Summary:
The Outreach Supervisor is responsible for supervising and supporting massage therapy students during their off-site clinical placements at community outreach locations. This role ensures that students deliver safe, ethical, and professional treatments, adhere to program expectations, and represent the institution in a positive manner. The Outreach Supervisor requires strong observational, communication, and evaluative skills, along with the ability to liaise between the outreach site, students, and the academic team.
Key Responsibilities:

Student Supervision and Professional Oversight:
- Observe students during clinical practice at off-site outreach locations to ensure application of proper techniques, demonstration of professional conduct, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide real-time guidance and support as students work with clients, helping to develop their confidence, competence, and clinical judgment.
- Intervene when necessary to ensure client safety and uphold ethical and professional standards.

Performance Observation and Feedback:
- Assess student performance through structured observation, using established rubrics or evaluation tools.
- Deliver timely, constructive, and respectful feedback to support students' practical and professional development.
- Identify strengths and areas for improvement, and communicate them clearly to students and the Outreach Instructor.

Site Coordination and Representation:
- Serve as the on-site representative of the massage therapy program, ensuring professional standards are upheld throughout the outreach experience.
- Liaise with site staff, clients, and host organizations to maintain a positive, respectful, and organized presence at the outreach location.
- Monitor student-client interactions to ensure a safe, inclusive, and ethical clinical environment.

Equipment and Setup Oversight:
- Confirm that students correctly set up, use, and sanitize massage tables, supplies, and equipment in accordance with program protocols.
- Report any site-specific equipment issues or malfunctions or supply shortages to the administrative team in a timely manner.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Complete observation notes, evaluation forms, incident reports, and attendance records in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provide regular updates to the Outreach Instructor regarding student performance, site conditions, and any concerns or feedback from the outreach setting.

Program Compliance and Student Support:
- Ensure student compliance with institutional policies, hygiene and safety protocols, and client confidentiality requirements.
- Promote professional communication, cultural sensitivity, and ethical behavior in line with the values of the program and the massage therapy profession.
- Act as a mentor and role model, encouraging accountability, self-reflection, and continuous improvement.

Collaboration and Communication:
- Participate in instructor or supervisor meetings and training sessions as required.
- Maintain open lines of communication with the instructional team to ensure continuity between classroom learning and outreach application.
- Escalate serious performance issues or misconduct to the appropriate faculty or administrative contact for follow-up.
Qualifications

Post-secondary credential in massage therapy.

Minimum of two years work experience in the topic in which they are teaching.

Minimum of two years as a practicing massage therapist in good standing with a recognized Provincial Association or Regulatory College.

Proficient understanding of the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapists at Entry-to-Practice.

Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to apply them effectively in instructional settings

Excellent communication skills

Experience with accreditation

Instructional experience in an adult education environment is an asset

Strong organizational and time management skills

Self-motivated and self-directed

Proficiency with Google Workspace

Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset
