**Summary:**The senior solution architect serves as a strategic technical leader who shapes the design and long‑term evolution of technology services across cloud platforms, enterprise networking, infrastructure systems, and endpoint environments. This role translates complex organizational and technical requirements into architectural blueprints and integrated solutions that support the university’s teaching, research, and operational mission. As a trusted technical advisor, this position guides multi‑year roadmaps and contributes to investment planning that advances technology transformation. It involves deep collaboration with research computing, security, network, infrastructure, and operations teams while continuously evaluating cloud, on‑premises, and hybrid environments. The architect plays a central role in solution design, governance, standards development, and strategic planning to support cohesive, scalable, and secure technology ecosystems.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
- Shapes long‑term architectural strategies and multi‑year technology roadmaps across cloud, network, infrastructure, and endpoint domains
- Designs integrated, secure, and scalable enterprise solutions that address complex organizational and technical requirements
- Leads assessments of current architectures to identify gaps, risks, modernization opportunities, and improvement paths
- Guides governance activities, such as design reviews, standards creation, and service maturity evaluation
- Leads or supports major technology initiatives by defining scope, budgets, risks, schedules, and communication plans
- Provides portfolio‑level oversight, reporting, and issue and risk management across multiple concurrent initiatives
- Coordinates cross‑functional teams, vendors, and working groups to support cohesive execution of technology plans
- Develops solution architecture artifacts and contributes to knowledge‑sharing repositories
- Builds strong relationships with unit leadership, operational teams, research units, and external partners
- Leads communication, change management efforts, and stakeholder alignment for emerging or evolving services
- Applies strategies to reduce resistance and foster adoption during the change lifecycle
- Recommends enhancements informed by industry trends in cloud, infrastructure, networking, and device management
- Supports modernization, automation, operational frameworks, and digital process improvement initiatives
- Promotes tools, methods, and practices that advance efficiency, reliability, and user experience
- Mentors and supports the development of architectural thinking and technical capability across team members and project contributors
- Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
- Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement

Education:
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, management information systems, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum of seven years of related experience in one, or more of, cloud architecture, enterprise networking, infrastructure services, endpoint management, or closely related domains, including hands-on technical work.
Skills:
- Experience leading or supporting large-scale, cross-functional, or multi-disciplinary technology programs or services
- Experience in enterprise information technology or research-focused computing environments is an asset
- Strong critical thinking, analytical abilities, and sound judgment in complex decision-making contexts
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for engaging executives, technical teams, customers, and vendors
- Ability to collaborate, influence, and maintain strong relationships
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain multiple priorities in dynamic environments
