Title: Chief Estimator Base Salary: $175,000-185,000+ Variable/Bonus: $25,000-30,000+ On Target Earnings: $200,000-215,000+ Reporting to: Director of Preconstruction and Estimating Peers: 5 Estimators
Key Performance Indicators Productivity: More quotes/More Proposals/Close Ratios Financial: P&L, Margin, Cost Structure Risk: Predictive, Contingency planning CSAT: Customer Delight Vendor: Negotiations + Relationships Communications: Clear & Concise
Mandate Groom & Grow a team of 5 Estimators Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive pricing. Optimize Margin Lump Sum, Construction Management, Design Build duties Sometimes you might need to do “Take Offs” Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and correspondence with clients & vendors. Develop and maintain cost structures and databases to streamline the estimating process. Analyze project specifications and drawings to develop comprehensive cost estimate. Present estimates to senior leadership, providing clear rationale and risk assessments.
Logistics: Why New Role: Growth – internal promotion – Organisation plan to be 1B$ Travel: In office 3 days/week – Home 2 days/week
Profile Character, Experience, Intelligence, Coachable (in this order) Character: Will Want Desire, Self Awareness, Accountability, Integrity Experience: Large Capital Project Estimating Experience ICI experience Must Have (Residential/Civil/Infrastructure not as attractive) Delivering on a 50M+ projects CET background attractive Understand Audience: Customer/Engineering/Architects/Trade Negotiating skill set. Clear lines of communication and language skill across diverse line of businesses. Stories Relating to: i. Margin on similar project sizes ii. Risk mitigation, predictiveness iii. Close ratios, business wins influence iv. Productivity increases v. Proposal delivery on tight timelines vi. ICI project wins vii. Groom & Grow talent Intelligent – high IQ Coachable – You’ll be learning new things.
