SUMMARY

This is a senior technical role that intersects with data and business analysis, data governance, and data modeling domains. The senior data analyst works as a subject matter expert alongside engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to gather and transform data, conduct statistical analyses, and create visualizations and reports that will contribute to identifying trends, patterns, and opportunities that drive business initiatives. The role’s expertise will extend to collaborating across teams, integrating data from diverse sources, and contributing to the data analytics and reporting capabilities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Apply analytical techniques to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies within large datasets, transforming raw data into meaningful insights.
  • Work with application development staff and business super users to integrate data management solutions in new or existing systems.
  • In collaboration with the Enterprise Data Architect, design, create, and implement logical and physical data models for both IT and business solutions to capture the structure, relationships, and constraints of relevant datasets.
  • Assist business function stakeholders in forecasting through predictive models, aiding businesses in future planning, and ensuring stakeholders can make data-driven decisions based on thorough data analysis.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to comprehend departmental objectives, delivering impactful recommendations tailored to essential metrics and KPIs.
  • Lead or assist in modeling, designing, and implementing data visualization tools such as Power BI to enhance data analytics and reporting capabilities.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with various stakeholders to understand data and business requirements and translate them into data models.
  • Create entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), data flow diagrams, and other visualization tools to represent data models.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data models and other data analysis services.
  • Contribute actively to knowledge-sharing initiatives among colleagues, promote best practices and continuous improvement culture, and lead the community of practice.
  • Work closely with Data Stewards and key stakeholders from several business functions to understand business domain knowledge and deliver meaningful insights.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Data Governance Analyst to ensure that data governance policies are effectively implemented, providing expertise on data quality, security, and compliance measures for comprehensive data governance strategies. Implement appropriate security best practices to share analytic products with consumers.
  • Engage in regular cross-functional meetings with the key IM&T and line of business resources to align data analytics efforts with the organization's overall data strategy and data management objectives, promoting a holistic and well-coordinated approach to data initiatives (e.g., self-serve analytics, advanced analytics).
  • Mentor and coach junior team members and business users, fostering knowledge transfer through documentation, training sessions, and collaborative development practices.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 8 years of experience in a related role, demonstrating a progressive increase in responsibilities and accomplishments.
  • Expertise and hands-on experience in cloud analytics platforms preferably Microsoft Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory including Data Flow, GIT-based version control, and SQL Server.
  • Expertise the various data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau)
  • Experience with Python Programming in Jupyter Notebooks and using Python data libraries such as NumPy, Pandas).
  • Strong analytical and statistical mindset with a keen attention to detail and the ability to derive insights from complex datasets.
  • Proficient in writing DAX, Power Query, and SQL, with experience working with relational databases.
  • Expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks, data quality management, and metadata management.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, FOIPPA), data loss prevention (DLP), and secure data handling best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills required to understand the requirements of both business and technology stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills allowing clear articulations when conveying conclusions drawn from analyzed information.
  • Familiarity with financial services industry regulations and compliance requirements is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices in data analytics environments.
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, nature language processing, or other related fields is an asset.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Management or related fields in data science, data management, and data analytics.
