Position Overview:
Situated within the Canmore Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Detachment, and reporting to the RCMP Detachment Commander, the Detachment Services Assistant (DSA) is responsible for providing day to day administrative, financial and operational support services for RCMP officers and other Detachment Personnel. Duties include, but are not limited to; responding to enquiries and complaints on the phone and at the front counter, facilitating criminal records checks, completing motor vehicle collision reports, transcribing statements, compiling court briefs, attending court as a liaison between the detachment and the crown prosecutor. They ensure accurate and timely compilation of relevant data and documentation. The DSA role is critical to the smooth functioning of the Policing Team as they build and maintain community and partner relationships.

Core Accountabilities:

The RCMP Detachment Services Assistant provides day-to-day operational administrative support to the RCMP officers and members of the public
-
Facilitates criminal records checks, motor vehicle collision reports, statements, and administers civil finger printing
-
Data base entry including; searches and inputting information into a variety of records management systems
-
providing information, advice and options to internal clients on administrative and operational policies, guidelines and procedures
-
Is generally knowledgeable about all Town of Canmore services and can direct a client to the appropriate department
-
Has detailed knowledge of the operations of the Canmore RCMP detachment
-
Follows established standard operating procedures for customer service, financial transactions (cash handling and deposits) and release of information, including ATIP, and routine disclosure
-
Accurate and timely database entry with the following programs: PROS, CPIC, JOIN, TEAM, PAT, CJIM, CREF, APIS, NPIRS, PIP, ROADS

Demonstrates knowledge of Administrative Information and Classification Filing Systems and is able to utilize them to their full potential for verbal and written communication, report preparation, data collection and entry, preparing court documents, filing and retrieving information, etc.

Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy to address these with tact and diplomacy

Maintains confidentiality of all client information
Education & Qualifications:
-
Minimum of secondary school diploma – required
-
Post-Secondary education or training in a related field such as office administration, criminology, sociology – an asset
Experience:
-
2 years of related experience in an office administration environment – required
-
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft office programs (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel), with the ability to independently create and edit a variety of documents and spreadsheets – required
-
Previous experience with investigation tracking software (e.g. PROS) – asset
-
Knowledge of Provincial and Federal statutes– asset
-
Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly - required
-
Organizational habits to understand, realistically plan for and meet deadlines, while adapting to changing demands and priorities – required
-
Has a keen eye for detail and appreciates the importance of accurate details on things such as communication, paper file compilation, presentation of documents, either written or electronically produced and adherence to deadlines as necessary- required
Conditions of Employment

Pass and maintain throughout employment an RCMP reliability status security clearance (this process includes a security/reliability interview, filed investigation in matter of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.)
Salary & Benefits:

Hourly Rate: $33.84 to $37.82 per hour to start. Pay rate will be calculated based on successful candidate’s related work experience and education.

FT Temporary position: 12 months with a possibility of extending to 18 months
