About the role
Position Summary The Adult Day Program – Casual Relief is responsible for delivering programs and services that support the needs of people living with dementia and their care partners. Reporting to the Manager, Community Support.

Principal Responsibilities And Duties
- Provide support for ADL’s (Activities of Daily Living) such as toileting, eating, walking, dressing for outdoors;
- Provide support with planning and implementing of programs for clients;
- Provide support to clients in various program activities such as chair exercises, arts and crafts, sing-alongs;
- Attend and participate in client debriefings to maintain current status of clients by observing and reporting on functional changes in client;
- Act as a staff resource person to day program volunteers and students;
- Participate in the provision of activities, socialization, exercises, mental aerobics and meals for program participants;
- Participate in training and educational opportunities related to the day program;
- Promote appropriate safety and security measures for clients and volunteers through adherence of day service policies and procedures;
- Maintain client information files;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
- Certification as a Personal Support Worker, certification in Dementia Studies or equivalent in education and training;
- Experience working with diverse communities and populations;
- Experience working or volunteering in an Adult Day Program;
- Training in recreation, gerontology or equivalent;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Strong organizational and communication skills;
- Patience and dependability; sense of humor;
- Respect and compassion for clients and his/her limitations;
- Participate in relevant training opportunities;
- Basic food handling knowledge;
- Level 3 Police Records Check/Vulnerable Sector;
- Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, adequate insurance coverage;
- Respect the client’s rights to privacy and confidentiality.
Language Competencies
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written is required;
- Ability to communicate fluently in French, spoken and written is considered an asset;
- Ability to communicate fluently in other languages considered an asset.
Computer Competencies
- Microsoft Office Suite of Products – Intermediate.
- CIMS – Intermediate.
SHIFT
- This position is on call. Hours of work can vary and include days, evenings, and weekends.
