Job summary
Our Winnipeg office is currently seeking a legal assistant in the area of immigration law. The successful candidate will work in a team environment with other legal assistants to support our immigration lawyers.
Our ideal candidate is self-motivated and highly organized, has superior computer, proofreading and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing support to immigration lawyers on clients’ immigration applications and cases
- Offering start-to-finish immigration application support to lawyers
- Reviewing and organizing client immigration file materials
- Drafting correspondence
- Preparing immigration materials
- Coordinating service and filing of proceedings with various tribunals/forums and courts
- Organizing documents including maintaining an electronic filing system
- Handling billing, AR collection, file opening/closing and related accounting matters
- Managing calendars of various immigration lawyers
- Providing additional administrative assistance and general office duties
Qualifications include:
- Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program (equivalencies will be considered)
- Two to four years of experience in any law practice area; experience in the area of immigration law an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team
