About the role
Are you a CPA who enjoys both strategic financial leadership and hands-on accounting? We're looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and provide financial insights that support business growth and operational excellence.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well established organization serving the construction, heavy equipment, municipal, road building, paving, aggregate, and industrial sectors. You'll work closely with leadership, oversee the full accounting cycle, and play a key role in strengthening financial processes and supporting business decisions.
Responsibilities: Lead the full-cycle accounting process and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting Manage month-end and year-end close activities Prepare financial statements, management reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial analysis Oversee inventory accounting and equipment-related financial transactions Manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, banking, and treasury functions Supervise payroll processing and provide support for basic HR administration Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies Coordinate external audits and support regulatory reporting requirements Mentor, coach, and support the accounting team Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiency Partner with internal departments to provide financial guidance and support informed business decisions
Requirements: Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (required) Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience Experience within construction, heavy equipment, manufacturing, or another inventory-based environment is considered a strong asset Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting Experience with inventory and operational accounting Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments
