Position Summary

Reporting through the Senior Accounting Supervisor, this position reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for managing a variety of key tasks in both Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions within the Finance Division. The successful candidate will perform full cycle Accounts Payable duties. This position ensures the accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, staff/student expense claims, corporate credit card transactions, accounts receivable invoices and credit memos. Moreover, the Financial Services Clerk verifies documents, reviews payment requests, generates cheques, posts purchase orders, processes debit payments, and applies payments to accounts, amongst other tasks. They also formulate journal entries.

The Financial Services Clerk is essential in maintaining accurate financial records, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring that all payments and receivables are processed in compliance with JIBC policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

The role requires excellent communication skills to interact with both internal departments and external vendors.

The Financial Services Clerk is a member of a team that is supportive and works towards creating a positive team environment for the benefit of the entire division

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Completion of Accounting certificate or diploma offered by a public post-secondary Canadian educational institution; or other acceptable equivalent courses;
  • Minimum one-year experience in accounting/finance;
  • Proficiency in Excel;
  • Good working knowledge of accounting principles and practices relating to accounts payable, including leaving and following an audit trail;
  • Ability to formulate journal entries relating to position responsibilities;
  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as related to accounts payable and receivable;
  • Basic understanding of financial statement implications to position responsibilities;
  • Good working knowledge of sales tax rules, both Provincial and Federal;
  • Fast and accurate data entry skills in a high volume and detailed oriented environment;
  • Ability to set priorities, multitask, and organize own workload to meet rigid deadlines;
  • Ability to discuss matters of dispute with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, using fact, logic, and superior listening and communication skills to gain co-operation and resolution.

What JIBC Offers:

We offer compensation in lieu of benefits and vacation for the duration of this role.

Salary Range:

$50,534.82 (with wage increments to a max of $57,185.10). Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement. (BCGEU Pay Grid 11)

*Position is currently eligible for Service Improvement Allocation of $41.65 bi-weekly*

Work Arrangements:

This is a term, full-time (35 hours per week) position. Must be within a commutable distance to JIBC's New Westminster Campus. This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement.
