The Tax group is currently seeking a Senior Commodity Tax Analyst to join their team. This role will report to the Manager, Commodity Tax & Compliance and will be responsible for supporting the commodity tax compliance function at Rogers.

What you'll do:

  • Preparation of commodity tax returns and tax remittance analysis including the recording of journal entries and account reconciliations with minimal supervision
  • Ensure timely remittance of federal and provincial tax returns and remittances to meet

strict statutory deadlines for filing and remittance

  • Perform monthly reasonability analysis for sales taxes collected to ensure filling amounts are within proper range

  • Review and analyze sample of supporting documentation for input tax credit claims as needed and work with business to ensure compliance with guidelines

  • Prepare, document and analyze reports required to satisfy controls aimed at minimizing sales tax risks within Rogers group of companies. Such reports include PST/VAT exception report, tax exempt customer list, sales tax specific vendors reports and other reports as they are developed.

  • Liaise with various groups to resolve commodity tax issues with relating to journal entries

  • Identify and remedy tax risks of compliance process in cooperation with tax manager, compliance

  • Provide needed assistance to managers with tax audit queries

  • Provide any needed guidance and assistance to other team members involved in compliance functions as needed, including to commodity tax analysts

  • Provide key insights into compliance process as part of Tax Department’s move towards automating key compliance processes.

What you'll have:

  • 2-3 years of tax compliance experience in a medium to large company
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements under federal and provincial commodity tax legislation and regulations
  • Ability to manage and analyze large volumes of data
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • A team player with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment
  • Well-organized individual that pays close attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Oracle
