About the role
Reporting to the Technical Publications Manager, the Technical Illustrator creates precise 2D/3D drawings, exploded views, schematics, and cutaway graphics to support the New Build organization. This role transforms engineering data into accurate, clear illustrations for Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), ensuring alignment with project requirements, engineering changes, and S1000D standards. The Technical Illustrator works closely with engineers, technical writers, and configuration management to maintain accuracy, consistency, and configuration control.

Create high‑quality technical illustrations, including 2D/3D renderings, diagrams, exploded views, schematics, and cutaways for installation, operation, and maintenance manuals.

Update and refine illustrations by validating accuracy against source data and preparing files in required formats (e.g., CGM, SVG, EPS, PNG) for IETMs.

Collaborate with engineers, technical writers, and configuration management to clarify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure illustrations reflect current engineering changes.

Manage illustration control and records, including maintaining Illustration Control Numbers (ICNs) and organizing files within the Common Source Database (CSDB).

Follow design specifications and standards, including converting engineering drawings into S1000D‑compliant graphics and other program‑specific formats.

Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance illustration workflows and publication quality.
Education
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Technical Illustration, Engineering Technology, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
Experience
-
2–5 years of experience in technical illustration, graphic design, technical publications, or a similar role.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear visual content.

Proficiency with tools such as CorelDRAW Technical Suite, AutoCAD, or comparable illustration software considered an asset.
