Description JOB DESCRIPTION Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Social Worker. As a Social Worker, you will provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses by using a recovery focused model of care, built upon compassion, inspiration and hope. You will be an active and equal member of the inter-professional team.
The assignment is on a 23 bed inpatient unit within the Geriatric and Neuropsychiatry Program. This unit provides specialized services for older adults with dementia, presenting with responsive behaviours, who are usually residing in long-term care. This unit provides assessment, stabilization, treatment and management of dementia-related behaviours. The goal of treatment is to stabilize patients so they can successfully transition to long-term care or the referring organization.
Requirements
- An MSW is required.
- The successful candidate must be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in good standing.
- Current CPR Level HCP is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery.
- 3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the OCSWSSW Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the College.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical social/mental health work.
- Thorough knowledge of social work treatment methods applied in mental health settings/community.
- Demonstrated competence in individual, group and family therapy and crisis intervention skills.
- Knowledge of concurrent disorders an asset.
- The candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
- The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset.
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
- Variable hours may be required due to patient demand.
