Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Clinical Manager within the Awenda B Program is currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time Supervised Behavioural Support Specialist. The purpose of this role is to provide assessment, treatment and consultative services for clients experiencing behavioural challenges related to mental health impairment and to participate as a member of a specialized mental health team.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St in Penetanguishene, ON

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Planning, implementing, evaluating, modifying and recording therapeutic treatment strategies in collaboration with the client and multidisciplinary team
  • Observe, communicate and record client behaviors, ability to function, and treatment responses for assessment purposes
  • Provide interventions such as socialization, self-care, leisure and coping skills training,and community integration to encourage the development of acceptable social behaviour; implementing behavior modification programs and support discharge planning
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret a variety of behavioural assessment tools
  • Prepare behavioural assessment reports and maintain accurate clinical records according to established standards
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating psychotherapeutic treatment programs
  • Consultation services for clients, relatives and a variety of other healthcare professionals
  • Provide physical assistance to patients experiencing behavioural challenges related to mental impairment, and to assist in emergencies/codes

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Behavioural Science Technology Diploma, or Autism and Behavioral Science Graduate Program
  • Member of the Ontario Association for Behavioural Analysis Inc. (ONTABA)
  • Valid Class G Drivers Licence and CPR and First Aid an asset
  • Preference for previous experience in a behavioural assessment role
  • Preference for similar experience in a forensic mental health environment
  • Experience with psychiatric diagnosis and disorders and theories, and of general and mental health theory and practice; dynamics of individuals and families
  • Experience with behaviour theory and management and crisis intervention techniques
  • Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven analytical skills to interpret, evaluate and develop appropriate treatment plan
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language
