About the role

We are currently seeking a permanent part time (0.80 FTE) Community Mental Health Worker 2 to join our Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) team at the Kamloops Mental Health Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a compassionate, resourceful, and client-centered professional who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate has experience supporting individuals with severe and persistent mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders and understands the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and harm reduction. The successful applicant is someone adept at building trusting relationships with clients, promoting self-determination, and empowering individuals to engage in meaningful recovery goals across life domains such as housing, wellness, education, employment, and social connection.

This candidate is someone who can confidently deliver life skills coaching, basic case management, supportive counseling, and advocacy, while also navigating and connecting clients with a range of community resources. The successful candidate must be able to work independently in diverse community settings, communicate effectively across service sectors, and participate actively in case planning and interdisciplinary team discussions. Strong documentation skills, a non-judgmental attitude, and a commitment to trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practice are essential qualities for success in this role.

What will you work on?

The Community Mental Health Worker 2 functions as a part of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) multi-disciplinary specialized team whose purpose is to ensure that persons with severe and persistent mental health problems and/or substance use disorders have access to timely, responsive, evidence based psychosocial rehabilitation across the continuum of available services.

This position is assigned to the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Program. The successful candidate will work in a team treatment model with complex clients who have long term psychiatric illness and co-occurring social and health issues. The position is an outreach role meeting clients in their homes and community.

Scheduling Information:

Shifts of work are days and shift times are from 08:30 to 16:30 hours. Days of work are Tuesday to Friday.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Grade 12

  • Diploma in a field relevant to the position

  • Two years recent related experience working with the assigned client population(s) experiencing mental health and/or substance abuse problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Current valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5).
