Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Children & Youth Ministries Coordinator will provide oversight to all children and youth outreach and programs at Brockville Community Church. They will give focused attention to strengthening and growing programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of the youth in the church and community.

ACCOUNTABILITES

Spiritual Leadership

  • Contribute with the spiritual development of children/youth and their families by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
  • Pray with and lead youth to Christ, as well as family members, where opportunity is given
  • Follow up with youth and parents/guardians on spiritual decisions made, building, and strengthening relationships, and guiding youth in establishing active links with the Corps and its ministries.
  • Demonstrate keen interest in community outreach. Build relationships with youth and families that are connected to our Church and Community Services. Encourage the volunteer team to do the same.
  • Cultivate a “spiritual and relational leadership style” with youth & children, their friends, and their families.

Children & Youth Program Oversight:

  • Provide leadership/oversight for all current child/youth ministries
  • Coordinate and maintain (and when necessary, reimage) existing programing relevant to the Youth of the church and wider community (Re: Generation Youth, Kids’ Club, Mom, Dad, and Me, Red Cap, T.A.S.K. etc)
  • Oversee the development, organization, and mobilization of a comprehensive outreach ministry for our communities, providing regular programs and events (including Rally Day, Vacation Bible School, any day trips or special outings, etc.).. that will connect youth and families from our Community & Family Services ministries
  • Develop and organize outreach to schools and neighborhood organizations.
  • Promote, support, and participate in Divisional and Territorial Children and Youth events.
  • Work cooperatively and consultatively with the Corps Leaders to prepare and deliver youth worship services, sermons, devotionals for the senior corps and for youth events.
  • Work together with existing fundraising efforts to raise funds and support participation in local church & community initiatives.
  • Must be accountable to the Mission Board for regular updates.
  • Inform the Corps Officer regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.
  • Attend Sunday worship services and participate fully as a part of the Brockville Community Church congregation, understanding that Sunday meeting attendance is an essential part of the ministry responsibility.
  • Commit to personal and professional development in coordination with supervisors (courses, training, workshops, etc.).

Volunteer Coordination & Leadership

  • Develop a team of volunteers; recruit, supervise, orientate, support and train volunteer leaders for youth discipleship programs, such as Bible studies, youth groups, etc. in partnership with the Corps Officer.
  • Develop strategies and recommendations for volunteer development.
  • Prepare, post, and maintain all volunteer schedules for those supervised, in accordance with operational requirements, ensuring adequate coverage for all program functions.
  • Prepare and maintain written records/logs of activities, including activity reports in accordance with TSA guidelines and standards
  • Provide direction and support to program volunteers ensuring that they work together to achieve the purpose of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army
  • Assist in the maintenance of volunteer files and statistical records as directed.
  • See that all related promotional material for youth programs and services is drafted, designed, and distributed to church and community members in a timely manner (subject to approval by supervisor).
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the youth programs.
  • Must submit all pertinent statistics into The Salvation Army’s database (SAMIS)
  • Ensure Brockville CC is compliant with all screening processes for children & youth volunteers, including completion of police checks for volunteers, statement of applicant for work with children and youth forms, and online abuse prevention training.

Community Relationship Management:

  • Liaise with our Community & Family Services to connect with youth/families, and to communicate appropriate services and programs the church offers
  • Manage online ministries and online services as well as social media accounts
  • Develop and maintain a strong social media presence for youth programs in accordance with TSA mission, vision, and values
  • Connect with local school personnel to explore any mission/outreach possibilities
  • Maintain frequent contact of youth - by phone, email, social media etc.
  • Communicate in an empathetic manner with congregants, families, and staff.
  • Inform the Corps Officer regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.

Health and Safety

  • Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.) in a tidy manor.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other position related duties as required.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to the Corps Officer
  • Attend meetings and staff training as required
  • Supervise and oversee a given number of volunteers at a time within established guidelines
  • Provide leadership/oversight for all current child/youth ministry activities and events

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Responsible for maintaining current curriculum and program equipment.
  • Provide input into youth budget. Responsible for working with assigned budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
  • The working environment is typically in the office and in the community in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs.
  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a sitting, and standing position for periods of time.
  • Travel is associated with this position {10%}. i.e., on occasion pick-up supplies, attend community meetings. Note: required to use the program vehicle when available.

Normal hours of work: The working conditions are such that in order to meet the operational needs of the job, flexibility in scheduling is required as it relates to hours of work and work schedule. Includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Schedule will include evenings and weekends with the expectation of attendance and participation on Sundays at Brockville Community Church.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed a post-secondary degree/ college diploma program in related field of study, such as Children/Youth Ministry, or Biblical & Theological Studies.
  • Additional education in Children/Youth work is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; with access to a personal vehicle if needed and insurance. A current copy of a Driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with youth and youth programming.
  • A background in volunteer coordination with strong outreach and discipleship skills would be an asset.
  • A second language would be an asset.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Suite Programs
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube and other social media platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple social media accounts with creativity and accuracy.
  • Understand, support; committed to teach and promote and be able to communicate and model sound Christian doctrine, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $39,739.02 to $49,673.78 with a maximum of $59,608.54.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
