About the role

Parkland County has temporary, full-time positions available for Horticulture Assistants from approximately May to August of 2026. Stationed out of Stony Plain or Wabamun and reporting to the Team Lead, Horticulture, the Horticulturist Assistants will maintain flowerbeds, shrubs and trees at County owned facilities as well as identifying insect pests and diseases on County-owned properties. The Horticulturist Assistants will also have the opportunity to support environmental education and engagement by developing materials, organizing logistics and supporting the delivery of engagement sessions including events targeted at both adults and youth. Additional duties of this position may include writing material related to the sustainability plan and policy updates, supporting ecosystem restoration projects such as wetland creation, participating in administrative meetings, and performing various administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • Current enrollment or completion of a recognized post-secondary program related to horticulture or environmental sciences.

  • Related experience in horticulture or landscape maintenance is preferred.

  • Customer service experience is preferred.

  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and related equipment operation experience (half-ton truck with or without a trailer, 4X4 ATV, push mower, weed eater, pruning equipment, fertilizer spreader, hand tools) is an asset.

  • Experience developing educational material for youth and adults is an asset.

  • Must have a Class 5 Driver’s License. A current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.

The total rewards package for this position includes:
An hourly rate of pay of $26.52 based on 40 hours per week.
