Department Information
The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
Job Information
The Junior Human Resource Officer provides frontline human resource services with a focus on recruitment, employee orientation, recognition, and workforce programs. Reporting to an HR Client Service Manager, the role supports managers and senior HR staff to ensure effective staffing, retention, and compliance with GNWT legislation, policies, and collective agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support end-to-end recruitment processes, including screening, interviews, and selection committee activities
- Provide advice and guidance to managers on recruitment options and staffing processes
- Prepare and maintain competition and staffing documentation in accordance with policy and legislation
- Monitor applications and manage eligibility lists to support candidate placement and sharing
- Facilitate employee recognition initiatives, including long service and retirement recognition
- Prepare letters, and other HR documentation as required
Key Qualifications
- A relevant degree coupled with 1 year of experience in a relevant field
Equivalencies
- A relevant diploma coupled with 3 years of experience in a relevant field
Relevant field of education can include, but are not limited to Human Resource Management, Business Administration and Public Administration.
Relevant fields of work can include, but are not limited to Human Resource Administration, Recruitment and Staffing, and Labour Relations support.
