The opportunity
We currently have an excellent career opportunity for a Tax Litigation Associate. EY’s global alliance of independent law firms cooperate with our offices worldwide to provide our clients with integrated, quality service. Our award-winning tax planning, counsel and litigation teams offer a powerful combination of legal knowledge, experience and national presence to help organizations successfully navigate the complexities of Canada’s tax laws. Our team has been ranked among Canada’s best and a number of our lawyers are widely regarded as leading practitioners and authorities in various areas of tax law and tax litigation, customs and excise and international trade law
Your key responsibilities
- Advise and assist clients in federal and provincial tax audits and propose strategies for resolving disputes.
- Prepare notices of objection, written representations and submissions to the tax authorities.
- Represent clients in disputes (court appeals, judicial reviews, voluntary disclosures, requests for relief, etc.).
- Draft legal opinions on tax consequences and perform post-deal audits.
- Supervise junior lawyers and help with business development.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across EY’s national and global networks.
Skills and attributes for success
- 1 to 2 years of experience in tax litigation, including representations before the courts.
- Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
- Completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program or a Master of Taxation (an asset).
- Outstanding academic and professional credentials.
- Bilingual (French and English), with excellent writing and speaking skills.
- Strong social skills for working with and integrating into groups.
- Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
- Analytically minded, able to work independently and client-oriented.
