About the role
About The Publication Director Position We’re seeking a creative and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Publication Director . In this role, you’ll be responsible for shaping the visual and editorial presentation of the journal, ensuring that each issue is polished, accessible, and publication-ready. You’ll oversee the final design and layout process, prepare articles for both digital and physical release, and collaborate closely with editors and authors to bring the journal to its highest standard.
Our ideal candidate will have strong design and editing skills, familiarity with layout software (Adobe InDesign preferred), and a keen eye for detail. Prior experience with print production is a plus, though a willingness to learn and problem-solve is just as valuable.
Publication Director Responsibilities
- Finalize the layout and cover design for each issue of the journal
- Perform final copyedits and proofreading for all selected articles
- Prepare and optimize the journal for digital publication and distribution
- Lead the preparation of the journal’s first physical print edition, including formatting for print, coordinating with printers, and ensuring high production quality
- Collaborate with the editorial team to maintain stylistic and formatting consistency across issues
- Ensure files meet professional publishing standards (print-ready PDFs, resolution requirements, etc.)
- Manage the workflow of publication production to meet all deadlines
- Recommend and implement design best practices to improve readability and visual impact

The Arts and Science Undergraduate Society represents the diverse needs and interests of over 10,000 students at Queen's University.
The society's mission is to enhance the academic experience of undergraduate students by offering a differentiated learning environment beyond the depth and breadth offered in the classroom.
ASUS oversees a broad range of operations and activities, including 7 commissions & offices, 50+ committees, and 2000+ student volunteers.
