Calgary Housing (CH) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the City of Calgary. CH is a purpose-driven social enterprise and the largest housing operator in Calgary, providing safe and affordable housing to more than 27,000 Calgarians. As a Mechanical Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, boilers, motors and pumps in facilities operated by Calgary Housing. Primary duties include:

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and repair HVAC including adjusting boiler controls, testing boiler safety devices, replacing filters and oiling and lubricating pumps.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Prioritize and schedule work and drive to job sites.
  • Respond to and resolve issues identified by residents, including emergencies.
  • Oversee the work of contractors by discussing issues by ensuring work is completed and referring issues to the supervisor.
  • Inspect fire/life safety systems for current certification and replace if necessary.
  • Make minor repairs and test and replace emergency lighting.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalency (i.e. GED).
  • A 5th Class Power Engineering certificate and at least 3.5 years of mechanical maintenance experience, including 6 months required to complete certification.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • The successful candidate will need to supply their own hand tools.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous boiler maintenance experience.
  • Success in this position requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, a commitment to excellence, customer focus and demonstrated initiative to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Working Conditions: This position works around conditions such as CO2, confined spaces, heat, noise and dust in boiler rooms, and will be in traffic when driving.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $35.69 - 39.53 per hour

Days of Work: This position works a 4 day work
week Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday,
with a 5 week rotation.

Hours of work: Non-standard 38 hour work week
