About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

The Print Production Assistant will support CHEO’s Creative Services, in their pursuit of providing quality creative services for CHEO, CHEO Foundation, CHEO Research Institute as well as other partners such as Kids Come First, Newborn Screening, BORN, and the Knowledge Institute.

Working closely with and supporting the Creative Services Specialist, the Print Production Assistant will ensure the efficient production and completion of assigned projects.

Characteristic responsibilities include:

  • Operates digital production colour and monochrome printing systems: configures job-processing settings, manages print queues, processes files and print jobs, and monitors equipment during operation to maintain copy quality.
  • Understands various print and image formats and converts from one format to another: Microsoft Office files, PDF, PostScript, XML, EPS, GIFF, JPEG, PNG, SVG.
  • Performs production finishing for print jobs – collating, binding, trimming, padding.
  • Operates equipment safely according to manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Recognizes and resolves printer quality problems using equipment operator documentation.
  • Works effectively with vendors' service departments for troubleshooting and repair of production equipment.
  • Maintains adequate but not excessive inventory of supplies.
  • Carries out routine maintenance, cleaning of printing equipment and monthly workplace health and safety inspections.
  • Assesses completed jobs for quality and adherence to requirements specified in the order.
  • Notifies clients when jobs are complete or delivers completed job to the client.
  • Promptly reports all workplace incidents or accidents and unusual or dangerous work conditions.
  • Represents CHEO in a professional manner and treats all work-related contacts with respect and courtesy.
  • Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.
  • Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of high school diploma (Essential)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in print production services is required (Essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex technology, such as production printers. (Essential)
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and ability to use the required software: Office 365, Teams. (Essential)
  • Knowledge of Xerox Fiery Command Workstation and Printer’s Plan (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Asana (Preferred)
  • Possessing strong hand and eye coordination with above average manual dexterity (Essential)
  • Ability to ensure on-time completion of tasks (Essential)
  • Dealing effectively with internal and external customers (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation; general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety. (Preferred)
  • Bilingual (English/ French) (Preferred)
  • Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
