Job Description
The Health and Safety Coordinator, Projects is responsible for coordinating health and safety across project-based activities supporting project teams in identifying hazards during project planning, ensuring required controls are proactively integrated into project planning and execution to support safe, efficient, and predictable delivery while ensuring alignment with operational requirements, contractor activities, and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities:

Act as a visible health and safety leader on site, building trust with workers, supervisors, and contractors through regular field presence, proactive engagement, and ongoing support to project teams throughout execution.

Promote a positive safety culture through communication, collaboration, engagement, and reinforcement of safe work practices.

Support project teams, contractors, and stakeholders in developing job risk assessments, work methodologies, and safe work procedures for new, non-routine, or high-risk work to ensure execution readiness and effective risk controls are established prior to work commencing.

Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessments, and pre-job planning to ensure controls are incorporated into project scope, schedule, and budget.

Integrate health and safety into all stages of project planning and execution by supporting project teams in identifying risks, implementing controls, and maintaining project ownership accountability.

Support project teams in ensuring health and safety requirements, permits, and training are established prior to mobilization and execution from various contractors and stakeholders.

Align contractors and stakeholders on risk management expectations before work begins.

Participate in daily safety interactions, toolbox talks, health and safety committee meetings and crew meetings.

Support and coach project supervision through workplace inspection field verifications and field walk throughs to reinforce safe behaviours and frontline leadership expectations.

Assist project teams with the investigation of injuries and incidents, including facilitation of root cause analysis and identification of corrective actions.

Support project teams with emergency preparedness and response planning, and coordination as required.

Evaluate contractor health and safety performance, documentation and reporting.

Support health, safety, and risk management initiatives on site.

Verify project teams and contractor health and safety practices are executed in accordance with Magna Mining’s policies, standards, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents
-
Grade 12 education or equivalent.

Post secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
-
Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation is considered an asset.
Work Experience: Nature & Length
- 4 or more year of health and safety experience in mining or other heavy industry.
Key Competencies: Behaviours & Skills

Knowledge of mining legislation and industry best practices.

Demonstrated communication, training, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to influence without authority.

Excellent documentation abilities.

Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments
