Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Transfer Station Attendant, the Transfer Station Attendant is a key member of the Station and is vital to the overall effectiveness, which promotes a positive, safe, secure work environment while providing exceptional customer service. The Attendant is required to perform a variety of duties including; directing the public in use of the site for proper disposal of items, financial transactions, site clean-up, and coordination of resources. The Attendant must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The shift-schedule will include work on weekends and limited overtime.
Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:
- Maintain and organize waste cart inventory, including assembly, delivery and repair.
- Direct traffic and customers and monitor all activity at the station.
- Assess items brought to the station for appropriate charges.
- Coordinate and maintain the Transfer & Eco Station garbage and recycling programs.
- Understand and adhere to the regulations set forth by the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) for special waste programs.
- Coordinate contracted services for material collection and disposal.
- Provide accurate information on recycling and waste disposal to the public and deal with complaints and inquiries in a respectful and timely manner.
- Operate equipment to prepare materials for transportation such as cardboard and garbage compactors, fluorescent bulb crusher and any other equipment deemed necessary.
- In an acting capacity, operate heavy equipment such as the loader, backhoe and skid steer to load materials, and prepare for transportation.
- Accurately handling transactions, receiving payments, and providing change to customers.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a minimum Grade 12 Diploma and possess a Class 5 Operator’s License.
Minimum one year of related work experience and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required. Mechanically inclined, competent in using equipment, and comfort with physically demanding work is essential. The incumbent will have exceptional organizational and customer service skills, with the ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing. Demonstrated knowledge of the waste industry is an asset.
This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will provide a Drivers Abstract upon hire.
Hours of Work: 80 hours biweekly
Duration: Immediately – January 10, 2026
